Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681) is an all-encompassing federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex of students and employees of educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX reads:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance...." Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and its implementing regulation at 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX).
What is Covered by Title IX?
In compliance with Title IX, Greenway Public Schools prohibit discrimination in all educational programs and activities on the basis of sex.
Programs under Title IX at Greenway include academic programs, admissions, recruitment, financial aid, student engagement/life, athletics, fine arts and employment (this list is not exhaustive).
Title IX is frequently thought of as a law that applies only to athletic programs, but it is much broader than that. Title IX applies to all educational programs and activities at Greenway.
